Posted by mnflyangler1 on Monday, April 14 @ 19:39:24 PDT
Does anyone here have any info for Wisconsin or Minnisota? Have you fished the kinnickinnic River? What would be the suggested nymph pattern that you would recommend? Have you caught any hatches their? What comes off when? Thanks for your help.

Utah Spring Runoff: Solutions?
Posted by dee on Thursday, April 10 @ 13:51:50 PDT
We've had quite a winter here in Utah as well as most of the West. With the snowpack being much deeper than the last few years we're in for quite an intense spring runoff. Although it will be greatly rejuvinate the fish and river bottoms, rivers will be basically unfishable for an extended period. My question is what will you fish for during that time? Head to the salt? Exotic locales? Lakes and reservoirs?

Utah Midge Fishing: Heating Up!
Posted by fliesandfinswest on Wednesday, February 20 @ 16:38:07 PST
Utah midge fishing is heating up. Many Utah rivers are exploding with activity. Sunny warmer (relatively speaking) afternoons have sparked huge afternoon midge hatches and the fish are on them. The key is to watch the takes. If you see a porposing type rise then fish are most likely taking the pupa while they are making their way to the surface, taking advantage of their vulnerability just before or just as they emerge. I have found this to be the case midday thru afternoon. Once the sun gets low in the sky the adult midges are the way to go. Big, gulping rise-forms let you know it is game on for the dries.

Green River, Utah: Flaming Gorge Access Points
Posted by troutstalker on Thursday, December 13 @ 17:55:49 PST
I just moved to Vernal, UT. I was wondering, where are some good places to park that offer access for wading anglers on section A of the Green, in Flaming Gorge? The maps I've seen haven't been too good, so any info you could provide would be great. I've lived in Utah my whole life, and fished many places, but never the Green. How sad is that?!
Thanks in advance!

Rocky Mountain Winter Fly Fishing: Stay On The Move
Posted by fliesandfinswest on Sunday, December 09 @ 17:07:59 PST
Winter has finally hit the west but that does not mean the fishing is over. Winter in Utah Idaho and Wyoming, and any other Rocky Mountain rivers for that matter, can be exceptional in the winter. The key is to stay on the move until you find fish. In many rivers the fish, particularly the browns tend to school up in specific spots during the winter. Could be a legacy of the spawn or it could be the type of water. Look for moderately deep (waist to chest) walking speed water. Slow your presentation down. Often you will not need as much weight as you would during the summer when fish are holding in fast, well oxygenated riffles. Don't be afraid to look for sneaky risers either. Midges are one of the biggest winter food sources for winter trout. When
