Spring Creek Techniques: False Casting
Posted by waterwhippa on Tuesday, February 07 @ 13:05:32 PST
When fishing spring creeks and flat tail waters I have learned over the years to minimize false casting when you are over educated fish. One reason being your fly line will spray water over your quarry. (Especially if you use a braided loop conection, they are porus and trap water) Another reason is the fish will sense the line flying over their heads and you can put them down. For the initial cast I will strip off enough line to reach my target and work it out over the shore before I lay it down on the water. After you have the line out it should just take one back cast and haul to present your offering.
