Posted by patm on Wednesday, February 22 @ 07:42:26 PST
Jason,
2006 is my year to go West. I have never been I need to know
1. If you could only fish one week out there what week would it be?
2. What is the trout triangle?
3. Can a newbie find his way around without guide service?
4. Can you find time to fish with me?
thanks patm

Re: The Western Trout Triangle: When Do I Come West by jason-c on Wednesday, February 22 @ 08:05:54 PST http://www.fliesandfinswest.com | | If you had a week I would pick one in late June to mid July. The water is cold and the big dry hatches are on. The trout triangle is a series of places that I fish. They form a nice triangular loop returning to Salt Lake City. Sometimes the trout triangle goes through Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. Sometimes it goes through Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. For example a one week trout triangle may include; fly into Salt Lake, fish one day on the Provo. Next day head to the Green River-about a 3 hour drive. Spend 2 days fishing the Green River. Then head to the North Platte, about a 4 hour drive. Spend 2 days on the North Platte and Drive back to Utah-sleep and fly out in the morning. Do you need a guide? That depends. If you want to catch more fish I would get one. Some people like to learn on their own though. If you are a decent fisherman and you do your homework you can do pretty well. However guides fish these waters everyday. They know all the local tricks. As far as me going with you. That is always a possibility. It depends on the dates. I do a lot of fishing! |
