Provo River And Park City Area Flies: What Works The Best?
Posted by jason-c on Wednesday, February 22 @ 09:15:39 PST
Provo River flies: what works the best? I hear that question a lot. The answer is that it depends. The Lower Provo River is loaded with sow bugs and midges. Any of those patterns work well as a "go to" fly. And they work all year. The Middle Provo has plenty of midges. Midge patterns are especially important in the winter on the middle. During the summer the Caddis, PMD's and Green Drakes take over. You can almost always get a few on the good old black woolly bugger too.

With cold water temps and short days, fish can be VERY lethargic at times. They are not going too get too exhausted going after a meal UNLESS it is a worthy one! Browns are extemely carnivorous and DO eat alot of smaller fish.
Try a big sculpin, minnow, zonker or bunny leech in deep slow moving water and hang on! |
