Madison And Gallatin Rivers: Montana In July
Posted by skitch976 on Wednesday, June 14 @ 09:49:04 PDT
I am taking a weekend trip to Montana in July to fish on the Madison and Gallatin rivers. I have fished the Madison before and know where to go for that one, but I have no clue where to go for the Gallatin. If anyone has info that could be helpful I would appreciate it. Tips on what to fish up there at that time would be helpful too.

Re: Madison And Gallatin Rivers: Montana In July by ChrisR on Thursday, June 15 @ 07:18:55 PDT | | There a literally a ton of spots to fish the Gallatin right off of Route 191. Once you get up toward Bozeman there are some smaller side roads you can access it from. When I fished the Gallatin I had a lot of success with Prince nymphs. The Gallatin isn't much of a mayfly water so try caddis and stonefly patterns. Salmon flies will probably be coming off around that time if I'm not mistaken. Yellow Sally's also. When you fish the Prince nymph rig it with a midge pupa dropper. Good luck. |

Re: Madison And Gallatin Rivers: Montana In July by cuttdawg on Friday, July 07 @ 07:19:11 PDT | My preference on the Gallatin is the "upper" section inside YNP. It's a classic winding meadow stream up there. Go above the park entrance sign on 191 & find a pull-off. It's all good.
I've caught plenty of fish on standard dry flies (H&L Variants, Parachute Adams, etc), as well as standard nymphs (PTs, crystal dips, etc).
You'll even get into some Westslope Cutties as you move up a bit. |
