Yampa River, Steamboat Springs, Colorado Tips: Get A Guide And Fish The Private
Posted by fliesandfinswest on Monday, October 23 @ 09:11:31 PDT
I have been receiving a ton of requests for tips on where to fish the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Here is my advice. The public water is great. It is full of big rainbows, a few browns and a few Cutthroats. There is public water all through town and a couple spots below Stagecoach Reservoir. The private water is the gem of the Yampa and there is a ton of it. Several local shops have lease rights to this private water. My suggestion is to spend the money on a guide to gain access to this private water. Make sure you book in advance. Most of these private areas have limited access which means you won’t see a ton of anglers but the trips fill up fast. Hope that is helpful.

Re: Yampa River, Steamboat Springs, Colorado Tips: Get A Guide And Fish The Private by joey on Monday, October 23 @ 16:03:23 PDT http://www.fliesandfinseast.com | | When I was there in the September I found good fishing all through the river. If your are in staying in town and don't feel like driving ou to the resevoir there are big fish to be caught right in Steamboat. I would reccoment starting up river 3-5 miles and working your way back towards Rabbit Ears Motel. If you are going to fish the tailwater try to get there a lillte early, preferably on a weekday, and fish the water where the sun first hits. there is only a quarter mile or so at the tailwater then it turns private for a mile or so then it is all public. The public area holds fome nice fish and they are usually visible. IF you have a lot of time and want to spend the $$$ definatley try to get on some private water. The public sections get pounded (especially the tail water on the weekends) and the fish are well educated. Good luck |
