Park City, Utah: Help Me On The Provo River
Posted by rjforce on Tuesday, March 06 @ 07:45:47 PST
I have not done a lot of fly fishing, I live in central Florida but most of my experience is fishing salmon in upstate NY. Wet flies with a weighted line is what we use up there on pretty heavy equipment. I am coming to Park City, UT at the end of this week and plan to take a day or two on the lower Provo River. My question; line, tippet, flies, etc. How do you rig and are there specific rules regarding tippet length, line weight, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Park City, Utah: Help Me On The Provo River by jason-c on Tuesday, March 06 @ 07:55:36 PST http://www.fliesandfinswest.com | | Most of the river is "no bait" and that is about it, as far as I know, when it comes to gear and methods go. I am not aware of any "unusual" regulations. As far as gear goes I would suggest a 9ft 5 or 6 wt rod with a 9 ft leader tapered to 4 to 6X depending n the hatch. Small midges have been working well. Afternoon dry fly action has been excellent. Traditional nymphing always works well. There are a couple videos in my video sections that will show you exactly how to set up. I would also suggest checking out the middle Provo between Jordanelle Res and Deer Creek Res. I hope that helps. I am sure others will have info to add. |

Re: Park City, Utah: Help Me On The Provo River by dee on Tuesday, March 06 @ 08:08:27 PST | | The fish on the lower seem to be more cooperative and less line shy than the middle, the middle getting pounded pretty regularly. Small sparce midges, 22 - 26 on the middle. Midges on the lower are a bit bigger with a few blue wings starting to get mixed in on cloudy days to keep you guessing! |
